My Angel

On August 19, 2012 in the morning hours, Jersey started another part of her journey. She parted for the rainbow bridge. She went peaceflly. We are all heartbroken but we know it is best. I think she decided to make mama and daddy's decision.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not cry. I got her name tattooed on my leg, kenny bought me a paw print necklace to honor her. She should complete her journey and come home this week. :(

Jersey Mae

This is lil miss Jersey Mae. She is a double dapple doxie. She is 5 years old and an amazing little girl. On August 8, 2012, our world was rocked. We got up that morning, I had a procedure i had to go to in Pensacola that day so kenny was off to take me. We were getting up and going. I had put 3 of the dogs out and went to get ready and Kenny was working on the others. He took Jersey out of the bed and she collapsed. Her whole back and legs. She was dragging her back half. So kenny yelled for me and I walked into the room and lost it! So since I could not cancel this procedure (would have had to pay a lot of money to cancel day of) I called my dear friends bryan and dawn. Devastated we took her to their house and dawn took her to the vet for us. As I am driving to pensacola I am in tears. I felt like such a bad mom for leaving her. What have I done?! So as I am in the pre op area kenny is on my phone and dawn texts. Jersey has calcification of half of her back bones. I am sitting there in tears, not knowing what the hell that means. I grab the phone and start researching as I lay in the hospital bed. The easiest way to explain is a big bone spur in her vertebrae in most of her back. So after all the doctor stuff is done, we race home to pick her up from Dawn's office. We walk in and our friend Jessica had stopped by and had Jersey all set up with a tub to hang out in and a bunch of stuff to help her get started on this journey. I am so grateful!

So as for her treatment, steroids, pain relief and laser treatment 2 times a week. She has a great prognosis so far. So we will keep our fingers crossed.

So the reason I decided to start this blog is to update on jersey's journey, talk about coping with a paralyzed pup and to help others. If this blog just helps one person know that they are not alone in this journey, then my job is done.

So we are now day 3 out and Jersey is doing well. diapers and all!

I will be updating hopefully once a week.

Thanks for reading,
Anna
